GSD was engaged by environmental regulators to lead the emergency response to a significant oil spill incident in a remote region of Northwest Western Australia. Our scope included containment, recovery, and full remediation of sensitive waterways and billabongs impacted by the uncontrolled release of waste oil from a tanker. GSD mobilised rapidly to deliver environmental protection and restoration under strict regulatory oversight.
This was a challenging emergency response in a very remote location hampered at the time by wet weather that required GSD’s capability and reach to put a detailed and methodical plan in place to then safely execute services promptly.
Our service solution covered the following equipment accompanied with decades of industry experience to get the job completed safely and to the clients’ satisfaction:
Critical works were undertaken by the GSD team to skim oil from the affected areas, remove all contaminated soils from affected identified areas after soil sampling was carried out and classified, all waste was then stored and transported to multiple hazardous waste facilities in Western Australia and Northern Territory – 2,300 tonne of Class 3 contaminated soil and 478,000 litres of oily waters removed, transported and disposed.
Job completed safely, compliantly and — despite remote access and adverse weather – to the complete satisfaction of the Department of Environmental Regulation.
Nil Environmental Incidents.
