Infrastructure upgrades
Remove concrete from selected areas during an upgrade or change to a structure. At a Pilbara mine, GSD worked on a ROM pad, where the mine receives and processes ore. The upgrade made room for larger haulage trucks.
Controlled concrete removal for mining and industrial projects
GSD provides robotic hydro demolition services from Karratha. We remove concrete around reinforcing steel and structural bolts for mining and industrial sites across the Pilbara. Our crew, led by Scott Collins with 17 years of Karratha and Pilbara heavy-industrial experience, arranges crews, equipment and waste recovery for each project.
Send us your site details and drawings. We can discuss what you need to remove and how to approach the work.
Scott Collins brings 17 years of Pilbara heavy-industrial experience.
Recorded on completed Pilbara concrete-removal projects.
Aqua Cutter and Con Jet robots with Hammelmann pumps on site.
26 structural bolts recovered intact with no rework on one project.
Hydro demolition uses a high-pressure water jet to break down and remove concrete. You may also see it called hydrodemolition or water jet demolition. Operators use robotic equipment to control the jet across the work area.
The method can remove damaged concrete or cut to a set depth. GSD selects the pressure, water flow and tools to suit the concrete and the required result. Hydro excavation removes soil; this service removes concrete.
Some jobs need concrete removed while steel, bolts or parts of the structure stay in place. GSD checks what you need to remove, what must remain and how our crew can reach the work area.

Remove concrete to expose reinforcing steel for the next stage of work. The plans should show the removal depth and what must stay in place, along with any access limits around the structure.
Remove concrete around bolts that need to be recovered or moved. We check the plans, the concrete and the parts you need to keep before selecting the work method.
Specific project experience, robotic equipment and Karratha-based crews. Here is what GSD brings to controlled concrete-removal projects in the Pilbara.
GSD removed concrete for a Tier 1 mining company upgrading its infrastructure for 300-tonne haulage trucks.
Our crew removed concrete at depths of 120–550 mm and exposed the required steel. Vacuum and civil equipment recovered the debris. We collected the water and sent it to the site’s treatment plant for treatment before reuse.
The work finished over eight days and nights with nil safety incidents.
On a second regional project, GSD removed 17.2 m³ of concrete using an Aqua Cutter and Hammelmann pump. The concrete had a strength rating of 50 MPa.
The crew recovered all 26 structural bolts intact and ready for reuse. The project recorded no rework.
The right method depends on what needs removing and what must remain. We check the concrete, steel or bolts, site access and required finish against your plans.
Selective removal targets weaker or damaged concrete while leaving sound concrete in place. The concrete’s condition and the equipment settings affect the result.
Some upgrades need concrete removed to a set depth, even when it is sound. GSD selects the equipment and settings to meet that scope.
We assess each job before recommending a method or price. This includes travel, setup and waste handling.
We check your location, drawings, removal area and depth. We also confirm what must stay in place, how to reach the site and when you need the work.
GSD selects the robot, pump, tools and recovery equipment for the job. We plan permits, equipment shutdowns, restricted work areas and controls for water and waste.
Trained operators carry out the agreed work. The robot lets them control the jet from outside the immediate removal area.
We collect water and debris, then check the completed area against the agreed scope. We agree the handover details and waste records with you.
GSD has access to Aqua Cutter and Con Jet robots, specialist pumps and waste recovery equipment. We choose the setup to suit the concrete, removal depth and site access.
Pressure is one part of the process. Water flow, nozzle movement and tools also affect the result.

Concrete removal creates water mixed with concrete particles and debris. GSD plans how to collect, treat or remove it before work starts.
Depending on the job, we may use:
On the Tier 1 mining project above, we sent collected water to the site’s treatment plant before reuse. We check the options at each new site.
GSD arranges crews and equipment from Karratha for work across the Pilbara. Our service area includes:
Tell us where the work is and when you need it. We can then plan the crew, equipment and travel. For remote sites, include water access, site-entry rules and any planned shutdowns.

Yes. GSD has completed work that exposed steel and recovered bolts intact. We check what must stay in place and review the plans before agreeing the removal approach.
Depth depends on the concrete, site access, equipment and required result. GSD removed concrete at depths of 120–550 mm on the mining project above. We assess the depth for each new job.
Robotic hydro demolition uses water jets. Mechanical demolition uses impact tools or attachments. We select the method based on the removal area, parts to retain, site access and waste handling.
GSD checks the site’s water supply and plans how to contain and collect runoff. We also review treatment, reuse or disposal options. Tell us what water and waste facilities your site has, if known.
Yes. We arrange crews and equipment from Karratha for remote work. Timing depends on the job, equipment, travel and site access. Send us your location and project dates to discuss.
The price depends on how much concrete needs removing and how deep we need to go. Concrete strength, site access, crew, equipment and travel all affect the cost. We include water and waste handling in the plan. Send us drawings or photos for a quote.
Include the location, removal area, depth and required dates. Tell us what needs to stay in place and how we can reach the work area. Drawings and photos help. If you are still planning the job, send what you have.
