INDUSTRIAL TANK CLEANING

Industrial tank cleaning in Karratha and the Pilbara

GSD provides industrial tank cleaning services for mine sites, storage facilities and marine vessels. Scott Collins and the GSD crew bring 17 years of Karratha and Pilbara heavy-industrial experience to every tank cleaning project. From Karratha, we arrange crews and equipment for work across the Pilbara and northern Western Australia.

We plan the cleaning method, tank access and waste handling around your job. Our team can coordinate product removal, internal washing and recovered waste through to the agreed handover.

Tell us about your tank, its contents and your work window.

THE SERVICE

What does industrial tank cleaning involve?

GSD removes remaining product, sludge and deposits, then cleans the tank to the condition you agree with us before work starts.

You may need a clean-out before an inspection, maintenance work or a change of product. We review what the tank has held, its internal surfaces and access points before selecting the equipment and controls.

TANK TYPES

Tank cleaning for mining, storage and marine assets

Mining and ANE tanks

GSD supports mining tank cleaning, including ANE tanks. ANE means ammonium nitrate emulsion, a material used in mining blasting products.

Our team reviews the product and residue before planning extraction, washing and waste handling. We coordinate the work with your site team and account for shutdown dates, access and transport requirements.

Industrial storage tank cleaning

For storage and process tanks, we review the previous contents and the residue you need to remove. We then agree how clean you need the tank for the next stage.

We select methods to suit the tank’s surfaces, lining and fittings. Share the product details and any cleaning requirements when you request a quote.

Marine and supply-vessel tanks

GSD provides marine tank cleaning for supply-vessel work, including drilling-fluid, brine, barite and cement tanks.

We plan tank access and product recovery alongside waste transport. Our team can coordinate the work around your vessel’s maintenance or off-hire requirements.

WHY GSD

Why mining and marine operators choose GSD for tank cleaning

  1. Scott Collins brings 17 years of Karratha and Pilbara heavy-industrial experience, including completed ANE and marine tank cleaning projects.
  2. GSD has cleaned 25 ANE tanks for a Tier 1 mining company and 18 vessel tanks on the Nomad Scorpion, with nil safety or environmental incidents across both projects.
  3. We plan the extraction, washing and waste handling before arriving on site, including confined-space controls where the job requires entry.
  4. Our team coordinated transport of 2.1 million litres of recovered liquid from mine sites to Karratha for treatment and processing.
  5. We work around your maintenance window, shutdown dates and vessel off-hire requirements.
PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Tank cleaning project experience

ANE tank cleaning for a Tier 1 mining company

GSD cleaned 25 tanks during a 12-week ANE project. The team used vacuum loading and water blasting to extract deposits, then completed internal cleaning with confined-space controls.

GSD transported 2.1 million litres of liquid during the wider project. We moved it from mine sites to Karratha for treatment and processing. We completed the work without a safety or environmental incident.

Marine vessel tank cleaning in Broome

For the Nomad Scorpion project, GSD cleaned 18 tanks covering drilling fluids, brine, barite and cement. Our team also transported 100,000 litres of drill mud to Port Hedland and Karratha.

The crew worked day and night shifts with confined-space entry, gas testing and rescue support. GSD completed the project without a safety or environmental incident.

CLEANING METHODS

Choosing the cleaning method for your tank

GSD selects the equipment after reviewing the tank, residue and required finish. We combine recovery and washing where the job requires it.

Vacuum recovery

Our crews use industrial vacuum loading for tank sludge removal. We also recover liquids, slurries and compatible dry material.

We consider the material’s properties, hose access and transfer distance when choosing the setup. We also plan where to contain and send the recovered material.

Water blasting and tank-cleaning heads

Our operators use high-pressure water blasting to remove deposits and wash internal surfaces.

We choose the pressure, water flow and tooling to suit the tank. Our operators can use tank-cleaning heads through suitable access points. We assess outside-tank options before planning work that requires entry.

CONFINED-SPACE WORK

Planning confined-space tank cleaning

GSD reviews access and the tank’s previous contents before planning confined-space work. We assess options for completing the job from outside the tank first.

For work that requires entry, we review the layout, deposits and cleaning requirements to determine whether entry is needed. We coordinate the controls with your site team. These can include:

  • Isolating the tank and connected equipment
  • Entry permits and access controls
  • Gas testing and atmosphere monitoring
  • Ventilation and communication arrangements
  • Standby personnel and a site-specific rescue plan

We agree responsibilities before work starts, including who controls isolation, access and the handover.

WASTE HANDLING

Managing sludge, residues and wash water

GSD plans what happens to the recovered product and cleaning water before starting the job. We review the material and its safety data sheet, which describes product hazards and handling requirements.

Our team coordinates containment, recovery and the agreed treatment or disposal route. We can arrange transport and hazardous waste management where the job requires it.

We agree the records you need for the work. These may include recovered volumes, transport documents and treatment or disposal records. We confirm recovery or reuse options for each waste stream.

HOW WE WORK

How GSD plans and completes tank cleaning

1. Review the tank and contents

We confirm the location, tank size, product history and cleaning outcome. Share photos, drawings and safety data sheets if you have them.

2. Agree the work plan

We select the equipment and crew, then coordinate access, site controls, waste handling and timing with your team.

3. Clean and recover material

Our crew removes product and residue, completes the agreed cleaning work and manages the recovered material.

4. Document and hand over

We record the completed scope and provide the agreed handover documents. Your site team then manages the next stage.
